Why Do the Righteous Suffer?

From the dawn of history, mankind has wrestled with the question, “Why do the righteous suffer?” This question can be particularly difficult for Christians. Some mistakenly believe that once we come to Christ, all our problems will disappear. The opposite question is also a cause of concern: “Why do the unrighteous prosper?”
The Book of Job sets out God’s absolute control over Satan, not found in any other book in the Bible. It presents a powerful case for the sovereignty of God, both in creation and in the affairs of man.
It demonstrates the great danger in believing wrong doctrine-how it contaminates our thinking and our response to God. It even intensifies our suffering. A great deal of the pain Job suffered was because of wrong theology.
This book explores Job’s response to suffering and God’s response to Job. It reveals some purposes for suffering-to teach us more about God, to help us to discipline ourselves as we suffer, and to allow God to refine our character when we find ourselves in the furnace of affliction.

“Howard Katz’ latest book Why do the Righteous Suffer? is one of the most succinct and inspiring treatments of the book of Job I have read. The issue of suffering is always relevant. Very few satisfying answers are ever given, but Katz has mined great treasure in his insightful study of the subject. If you, or someone close to you, are or is suffering, you will want to read this book.”
—Jim Cantelon, former host of 100 Huntley Street, founder and President of Visionledd, and author of When God Stood Up.

Howard Katz is from a Jewish background, the eldest son of a Holocaust survivor. At the age of twenty Howard received Christ as his Saviour. He is the founding pastor of a church located in London, Ontario, Canada.
